*For the most part…
Since Monday, we’ve assumed the iPhone 3GS would be physically identical to the iPhone 3G. Apple didn’t come right out and say this (as far as we can tell), though the dimensions released were the same. However, dimensions could be the same for two devices with each having different curves, tapers, etc., so we still had some doubt. But now we’re beginning to see case makers confirm that their 3G cases will work with the new iPhone 3GS when it debuts on Friday.
The Marware Sport Grip, for example (Marware Sport Grip Review) is now marked 3GS compatible. If this case, which is form fitted and custom-designed down to the ambient light sensor cut-out, works with the iPhone 3GS, we can’t imagine that any case wouldn’t.
Of course, it’s still early and there may be exceptions, so we’re keeping that big asterisk right where it is. But, generally speaking, if picking up a shiny new iPhone 3GS on your to-do list, take comfort that your current 3G case should make the transition just fine.
